Guiyi Recycling Water Plant in Yunyan district, in Southwest China’s Guizhou province, was put into trail operations on April 12 as sludge discharge was successfully processed, according to local officials.
The new treatment facility, as one of the 18 recycling water plants installed in Guiyang city, is an initiative undertaken by the district government to improve the water quality of the Nanming River.
It is the first deep-buried underground recycling water plant, constructed along with civil buildings in China, with capacity of handling 50,000 metric tons per day of sewage.
It serves 2,206 hectares of area and mainly deals with the drainage lines for Yanwu Street and Chadian Street.
“The plant adopts sludge cultivation, by borrowing the sludge from other water plants,” said Li Wenyu, deputy general manager of Guiyang CECEP Water Development Co.
“The sludge cultivation can be completed in one and a half months to meet the standard water quality, which is quicker than before,” he added.
Since the start of construction, the district has overcome many challenges – including geological projects, noise limits and have to use blasting – in order to safely and efficiently work on the plant. At present, construction of the main body and equipment installation of the Guiyi Recycling Water Plant has been completed.
Currently, there are 30 technicians on-site working the equipment, as well as carrying out operations, laboratory tests and maintenance work to lay the foundations of its formal commencement of operations.
