Statistics collected by the Guiyang bureau of commerce indicated that over the first three months of this year, Guiyang in Southwest China's Guizhou province reported 66.95 billion yuan ($9.44 billion) in sales of consumer goods, a year-on-year increase of 5.3 percent, which is 0.6 percentage point higher than the national average.
This performance put Guiyang at fifth among China's 26 provincial capitals and first among the 10 major cities of West China.
During this year's May Day holiday, Guiyang's consumption totaled 6.99 billion yuan, leading the entire province.
Efforts have been made to create a number of Guiyang special product brand stores and experience stores, as well as upgrade municipal time-honored shops, to meet the diversified needs of consumers.
Large-scale sales promotion activities, such as those targeting China Tourism Day on May 19, will be used to attract consumers from outside Guiyang. The old-for-new services for automobiles, home appliances and furniture will be strengthened to further improve the local consumption environment.
The government will continue to polish the "Cool Guiyang" consumption brand and promote the construction of convenient shopping facilities to create a safe and satisfactory shopping environment.
