Supporting measures spur shopping momentum in Guizhou

Data indicated that during the first three months of this year, Southwest China's Guizhou province saw the total retail sales of its consumer goods surge by 8.2 percent, up 6.1 percentage points compared with the same period last year.

This year, the province has organized a variety of promotional activities during major festivals, with its first promotional activity of 2024 bringing in 112 million yuan ($15.79 million) through online and off-line sales. The city's New Year Purchase Festival enjoyed more than 200,000 visitors and 35.73 million yuan in transaction volume.

A series of shopping promotion policy measures have been rolled out, covering New Year goods, liquor, automobiles, and home appliances.

During the May Day holiday, Guizhou saw sales totaling 20.94 billion yuan, up 6.71 percent. The number of consumers seen over this holiday period increased by 8.14 percent compared to the previous year.

Livestreaming e-commerce is now thriving in Guizhou, and now the province is able to promote and sell its agricultural products, intangible cultural heritage items, and unique cultural tourism products to consumers all around the world. It is calculated that Guizhou now boasts about 250,000 livestreaming operators that achieved a cumulative total sales of nearly 3 billion yuan last year.

On May 6, the provincial government issued a document that emphasized the need to recycle and renew consumer goods and old equipment.
