At the beginning of 2024, Guiyang in Southwest China's Guizhou province conducted more than 50 sales promotion activities.

Over the three-day New Year holiday, Guiyang reported an 8.5 percent growth in sales. Stimulated by New Year's Eve music festivals, carnivals, and other intangible cultural heritage experience activities, all the major business complexes in Guiyang rolled out discount promotions.

Meanwhile, the city's business districts and special nighttime consumption blocks had staged various themed activities, recording a 10.3-percent increase in nighttime shopping. Qingyun Market, for example, registered a consumption surge of 218.3 percent during the holiday. It received 114,900 tourists, up 268.1 percent year-on-year.

Statistics show that about 56.6 percent of the holiday sales were contributed by local consumers, while 43.4 of them were from consumers outside Guiyang.

Moving forward, the city will focus on the shopping demands of diverse consumer groups. Its immediate plans are to organize the Spring Festival shopping event, and other such activities, in order to spur consumption.
