'Cool Guiyang, 520' fest spurs local consumption

The "Cool Guiyang, 520" shopping festival for Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, kicked off on May 19. And on May 20 alone, the city registered 1.3 billion yuan ($186.68 million) worth of consumer goods sales, up 21.9 percent from last year, with 1.99 million shoppers taking part in the festival, according to sources from the Guiyang bureau of commerce.

On May 19-20, the city saw consumer goods' sales hit 2.57 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 24.2 percent.

Major business districts on Zhonghua Road, Qingyun Road, and other key consumption areas reported sales growth of 21.8 percent on average.
