The camping market in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province has recovered quickly this spring, as camping becomes a popular way for residents to spend their short holidays, combined with other camping activities, such as star gazing, recreational vehicles, open-air movies, concerts, and sports events.
"Although the camping economy is supported by local mountain tourism resources, over the past several months, business has been shrinking due to the increase in outbound travel," said Wei Heng, president of the camping branch of the Guiyang tourism commission.
According to Wei, Guiyang's camping sector has entered its transitional period, meaning that small and medium-sized camping sites that cannot adjust their development strategies according to the changing market demand will be phased out. This will leave competitive and high-quality camping sites to play dominant roles in the industry.
According to the experience gained from abroad, Guiyang's camping market boasts a long-term existence, especially when the economy is sluggish. The majority of people find camping sites that focus on connection and interaction to be ideal.
Experts believe that providing irreplaceable scenarios will become the key to achieving the high-quality development of the camping economy after its exponential growth. For example, a camping site in Huaxi district has created 29 clubs for research, reading, hiking, cycling, fitness, tea culture, musical instruments and baking, in order to attract a fixed number of camping enthusiasts.
Currently, the camping branch of the Guiyang tourism commission is seeking its development direction, and is forming replicable and applicable experience. Meanwhile, efforts will also be made to introduce camping facility manufacturers to cultivate a complete camping industrial chain.
