Since 2022, Guiyang and Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province have worked hard to improve the environment and quality of local markets, especially farm produce markets, bazaars and wholesale markets.
At the Xinlukou farm produce market in Nanming district, 560 booths have been divided into areas selling fresh produce, raw materials, cooked materials, dry food and wet food, while on an electronic screen, food prices and the market layout are displayed.
Statistics show that since the start of 2021, Guiyang has renovated 84 such farm produce markets and relocated 243 million yuan ($35.24 million) to expand or rebuild new areas for the markets.
In addition, signs advocating low-carbon and green lifestyles have been set up at the markets, and residents are advised to bring their own cloth bags instead of using plastic bags provided by sellers.
