Consumer spending reportedly thrived in Southwest China's Guizhou province during the Spring Festival holiday from Jan 31 to Feb 2, with statistics collected from authoritative financial institutes indicating the region posted 18.56 billion yuan ($2.92 billion) in consumer spending, and retail sales generated by 33 key enterprises worth 105 million yuan.

Since January, Guizhou is said to have moved to ensure the ample supply of necessities in big shopping and commercial malls, supermarkets and farm produce markets. Prices of all kinds of fresh food are understood to be fluctuating within a reasonable range.

In the Guiyang Dili Agricultural Product Logistic Park, the average daily fruit volume delivered there has surged to 4,000 metric tons from 1,600 tons previously. Citrus fruit such as oranges and grapefruit had better sales during the holiday, while fruit gift boxes that carry a variety of fruit also gained increasing popularity.

Nearly 9,000 tons of vegetables were stored daily in the market during the holiday, a level which was able to meet estimated consumption needs for three days.

Moreover, coupons and subsidies issued by the provincial government, financial groups and related enterprises acted to stimulate special purchases during the festival. Guizhou posted 11,500 automobiles in sales in January alone, up 10 percent year-on-year and a hitting a record.

In addition, many local restaurants have launched special offers and discount programs online and on-site to boost business.
