The city of Guiyang, capital of China's Southwest Guizhou province, is making moves to ramp up its trade in the current year with South Korea.

Zheng Xuke, vice president of the Guiyang Sub-Council of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, presided over a symposium on Jan 19. It discussed Guiyang-South Korea business and trade promotion work with Gao Fanrui, chief representative of the Chengdu branch of the Korea International Trade Association.

The two sides exchanged opinions on their cooperation in the Big Data Expo and the fourth China International Import Expo. Gao then gave details on two special on-site and online business promotion events to be held in Southwest China this year, looking forward to the participation of the Guiyang municipal government and Guiyang-based procurers.

Zheng explained how Guiyang would benefit from the massive regional RCEP trading agreement in terms of foreign trade and the manufacturing sectors after it takes effect on Feb 1 in South Korea, offering to strengthen joint efforts in introducing more South Korean mid and high-end consumer brands.

After the symposium, Gao's team also visited several commodity exhibition centers and major shopping complexes in Guiyang.
