The city of Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – ranked 18th among 80 cities surveyed in terms of a series of government procurement indicators in the 2020 report on China's business environment and it reportedly continues to excel to this day.

In a bid to make its procurement procedures fairer and more transparent, the municipal government there has issued streamlined policies and guidelines on procurements, collated them into documents and sent them to the firms involved.

It is understood that the authorities also focused on raising the participation rate of medium and small-sized enterprises in government procurements.

In addition, a municipal procurement platform has been established in the city to boost administrative transparency and to save costs in terms of human resources and materials for both suppliers and the government.

"Strict procurement managing systems will render increased fairness to suppliers and motivate them to improve the quality of their products," said an official responsible for government procurement affairs.
