Guiyang's first discount fresh produce store opened in Guanshanhu district on Oct 29. The store is part of efforts by the government to build a 15-minute community living circle for residents.
Every 500 grams of potatoes and tomatoes cost 0.99 yuan ($0.15) and 2.99 yuan, respectively at the store, which sells all kinds of basic necessities.
"Through research and analysis, we have found that some residents of Guiyang are still unable to buy life necessities within a 15-minute walk. That is why we have established this new business," said Chai Yongkang, vice general manager of Guiyang Huimin Minsheng Agricultural and Sideline Products Co, "It is a win-win business – farmers are motivated to offer more agricultural products with higher added value and competence, and the direct supply from farmers reduces operational costs," he added.
