As the geographical and economic center of Guizhou, a province in Southwest China, Guiyang has joined forces with Guian New Area to deepen the opening-up and stimulate the regional economy.

Guian is a national new area financially and politically supported by the central government. Although favored for its ample land resources, Guian still stands in need of talents, investments and businesses.

Faced with development pressure, Guian and Guiyang have partnered to attract more outside businesses. Through their constant efforts, 43 major programs involving a total investment of 93.65 billion yuan ($14.05 billion) were brought in over 2020.

They have also established a cross-region industrial sharing and cooperation mechanism, which has brought Guian closer to Guiyang's six urban areas and four national-level economic and technological zones.

Overshadowed by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the aftermath of which is still being felt in many countries worldwide, Guiyang and Guian have developed with an even faster pace. Guiyang registered a GDP of 431.2 billion yuan in 2020, an increase of 5 percent year-on-year, while Guian New Area's GDP surged 7.6 percent to 13.9 billion yuan last year.

A batch of Guizhou-made products was transported via China-Europe freight trains for the first time on Aug 3, 2020. From then on, a brand-new expo channel boasting a faster speed has been made available.

The four development zones in Guiyang – Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone, Guiyang National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, Guizhou Shuanglong Airport Economic Zone and Guiyang Free Trade Zone – work like four powerful "wheels" driven by the "engine" Guiyang, with each of them possessing their own unique characteristics.

Benefiting from international platforms such as the China International Big Data Industry Expo and Eco Forum Global Guiyang, Guian and Guiyang has been recognized worldwide. Statistics show that over the past five years, Guiyang has attracted 75 Fortune 500 companies and 4,583 industrial programs.
