Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is taking the lessons it has learned in containment and prevention of the novel coronavirus and considering applying some of the initiatives in the longer term, according to local officials.
They said the city actively developed non-contact delivery services during the period, which ensured the supply of daily necessities for local urban and rural residents and reduced the risk of cross infection.
Guiyang set up a special distribution group for the daily deliveries of food and other important goods. To date, the group has established a total of more than 2,600 temporary centralized distribution stations in residential communities and completed a total of 6,964,435 online orders with a transaction value of nearly 722 million yuan ($102 million), effectively solving the daily necessity needs of residents in closed communities during the epidemic.
Officials said that recently, the city has explored whether to establish a long-term mechanism for distribution work to facilitate non-contact distribution during special periods.
The special distribution group has cooperated with Cainiao Network, a logistics subsidiary of Chinese internet giant Alibaba Group, to improve the distribution service through community information sharing and e-management.
More than 600 distribution sites on Cainiao Network have cooperated with local communities on setting up community stations for epidemic prevention and control, under the guidance of the special distribution group.
These stations have opened exclusive areas for residents' daily necessities and epidemic prevention and control supplies and provided free storage, dedicated management and intelligent management services.
Some of the stations also provide value-added services, including doorstep delivery services for the elderly and equip refrigerators in the stations to store fresh food and medical supplies, which are well received by the public and distribution companies.
