Guiyang city in Southwest China's Guizhou province has rolled out a series of measures to ensure the convenience of citizens in closed communities during the novel coronavirus epidemic, according to the Guiyang municipal bureau of commerce.
By Feb 12, Guiyang had set up 944 centralized distribution points, officials said.
These stations at checkpoints or area entrances in local communities receive goods delivered by delivery people.
Residents can pick up the goods on their own or ask community workers for a doorstep delivery service, which reduces gatherings of people.
Some communities also provide convenience carts at the receiving points for citizens, local officials said.
They said the moves towards epidemic prevention and control and the resumption of logistics industry have led to a boom in e-commerce.
On Feb 12, more than 10 major supermarkets and e-commerce platforms in Guiyang completed a total of 133,229 online orders with a transaction value of 25.02 million yuan ($3.56 million), accounting for 17.04 percent of total retail sales that day.
