Yelang Valley

Where dramatic karst landscapes meet artistic imagination, Yelang Valley has become one of Guiyang's most distinctive cultural attractions. Created in 1996 by renowned Guizhou-born artist Song Peilun, the valley is a remarkable fusion of natural scenery, local culture and artistic expression.

Inspired by Guizhou's karst terrain, indigenous traditions and the cultures of the region's ethnic minorities, the valley also incorporates elements of Tunpu culture, Nuo culture and stone architecture. Working with local villagers and using materials gathered from the surrounding landscape, Song Peilun gradually transformed the mountainside into an extraordinary open-air work of art.

Towering ancient trees line the valley, beneath which countless monumental stone sculptures emerge from the landscape. Built from rocks, pottery fragments and discarded roof tiles, these expressive faces display a wide range of emotions — from fierce and imposing to playful and mysterious — making them appear almost lifelike. Wandering through the valley feels like stepping into a mythical world where nature, history and creativity exist in perfect harmony.

· Transportation: Take Metro Line 3 to Huaxi Park Station, then transfer to Bus Route 401 and get off at Yelang Valley Scenic Area Station.

· Opening hours: 8:30 am–6:30 pm (last admission at 6 pm)

Children and students: 10 yuan

Free for visitors aged 70 and above
