Huaxi improves urban, rural coordinated development

Huaxi district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been working to coordinate development of urban and rural areas in recent years.

Huaxi has built a livable living space for local residents by improving infrastructure to increase their happiness and sense of security. 

Huaxi Avenue and Huashi Road have undergone a thorough transformation, while Guihui Avenue, the southern section of Huaguan Road, Mengxi Road, and Songbai Ring Line were completed and opened to traffic. The length of rural roads now exceeds 720 kilometers. 

The district has renovated 18,200 houses in shanty and old communities, built a number of modern commercial and residential communities, and added 1.02 million square meters of urban green space.

The rural domestic waste disposal rate has exceeded 75 percent, and the district has developed 26 beautiful rural demonstration villages and nine demonstration villages for human settlement environment improvement. 

It has renovated 60 back streets and alleys, added 5,700 parking spaces, built and reconstructed 16 public toilets, and demolished more than 2.6 million sq m of illegal structures, making the city more clean and orderly. 

In addition, the district has upgraded local transportation, medical services, education and elderly care. 

By the end of 2021, 29 new elderly-care service institutions were built in the district, 39 new schools were added, the surgical complex and emergency center of Huaxi People's Hospital were built, five townships were rated as national health townships, and the district completed 1,400 affordable housing projects and issued more than 36 million yuan ($4.97 million) in housing rental subsidies.
