Huaxi district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, achieved considerable development in education in 2016-20.
During this period, the district invested 5.91 billion yuan ($883.06 million) into financial education funds, and the proportion of education funds in public budget expenditures increased to 23.77 percent.
Huaxi built, renovated or expanded 39 schools accommodating 27,350 students, including 19 kindergartens and 14 primary schools.
The district also made strong progress in the provision of educational and teaching facilities and educational informatization. All schools in the district had broadband accessible and multimedia classrooms.

It supplemented 933 teachers for primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in the district through recruitment and introduction, effectively eliminating teacher shortages.
"Among them, 68.89 percent have a bachelor's degree or above," said Qin Zheng, director of the Huaxi Education and Training Research Center.
The district improved the overall quality and abilities of teachers through training, there are now 375 "backbone" teachers.

To promote the balanced development of education throughout the whole district, Huaxi established 20 education development communities, allowing teachers and management cadres to work flexibly in different schools, and strengthened the training of rural teachers, to reduce faculty resource gaps between schools and between urban and rural areas.
The district also carried out after-school services, benefitting more than 60,000 students.
As a result, 91.67 percent of children aged 3-6 received preschool education, 99.4 percent of school-age children attended primary schools, 98.6 percent of school-age children were enrolled in junior high schools, and 99.2 percent of school-age children were in senior high schools. Also, 98.76 percent of children with disabilities had access to education.
