Huaxi district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently garnered the title of "National Health Promotion District" after improving local health development and meeting public health needs.
Since it began efforts to become a national health promotion district in 2019, Huaxi has increased the supply of fitness facilities for local residents.
The district has built 158 kilometers of health trails and six health theme parks, along with 1.64 million square meters of sports venues.
It has also promoted the integration of health, tourism, environmental improvement, and education.
More investment has been put toward the health-themed tourism industry, with more than 60 km of greenways, 20 eco-friendly parking lots and over 200 tourist toilets built to date.
The district has strictly implemented laws and regulations regarding environmental protection, keeping the rate of days with high air quality above 98 percent, and ensuring that the water quality of all centralized drinking water source and surface water meets national standards.
In addition, Huaxi has selected 105 excellent medical and health workers to promote medical and health care science, set up 65 family doctor service teams, and offered health consultations, guidance and treatment services in schools and rural communities.
As a result, more residents of the district have shared in the benefits brought about by the construction of a national health promotion district. So far, 34.2 percent of local residents have basic health knowledge, understand healthy living, and have basic health care skills, with the rate significantly higher than the provincial average.
