Villagers in Gaopo township of Huaxi district, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, have recently been busy tending to their crops.

To increase grain production, agricultural efficiency, and farmers' incomes, Gaopo township has strengthened the use of winter fallow soil in villages and developed rape flower, broad bean, and potato industries, according to Liu Haichuan, deputy Party secretary of the township.

The township's winter planting area has so far exceeded 240 hectares, of which about 26 ha is used for broad beans, over 146 ha for rape flowers and more than 66 ha for potatoes.

The busy winter farming season in Gaopo township is due to Huaxi district's efforts to promote agricultural and rural affairs.

Since the beginning of this year, Huaxi has made the adjustment of the agricultural industrial structure as its top priority in agricultural and rural affairs, and has promoted agricultural industrial reforms.

The district's bureau of agriculture and rural affairs has promoted the cultivation of high-quality and efficient autumn and winter crops such as rapeseed and broad beans, expanded agricultural industries and advanced rural revitalization.

The bureau has established an autumn and winter planting technology guidance group to offer technical guidance in local townships and towns that focus on planting rapeseeds; communicated with technical institutions on the latest grain and oil crop planting technologies and conducted technical training; and invited experts and farming technicians to offer one-to-one guidance to farmers in fields.
