Media learns about strawberry sector in Huaxi

A media delegation went on a tour of Huaxi district of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Nov 25 – to learn about the development of the regional agricultural brand known as "Huaxiaomei".

The journalists visited two strawberry farms and one strawberry processing plant in the district.

There they learned about the district's restructuring of its agricultural industry, the development of "Huaxiaomei" brand and how local residents are boosting their incomes through the strawberry sector. 

The district released the "Huaxiaomei" brand last year to promote the development of the local strawberry industry and increase the earnings of locals. 

To date, the land under strawberry cultivation area in the district has grown to more than 200 hectares, with a projected annual output of 4,500 metric tons, worth some 250 million yuan ($39.13 million). 

The strawberry planting has created jobs for 1,100 local people annually and so far helped 130,000 local farmers get employed and earn 19.8 million yuan.
