In the past five years, Huaxi district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has worked hard to promote high-quality development.
A total of 1,060 households containing 3,619 people in the district have been lifted out of poverty. Also, nine impoverished villages have been lifted out of poverty, with 1,060 people from 290 households relocated to new homes.
The per capita disposable income of urban residents and rural residents increased from 28,874 yuan ($4,513) and 13,463 yuan in 2016 to 39,592 yuan and 19,293 yuan in 2020, with an average annual increase of 8.3 percent and 9.2 percent, respectively.
In 2020, the local gross domestic product reached 63.71 billion yuan, representing an average annual growth rate of 8.8 percent. The average annual increases for investment in fixed assets and industries above a designated size were 11.8 percent and 7.8 percent, respectively.
The district's green development continued apace and its air quality saw significant improvements. The water quality compliance rate of centralized drinking water sources was maintained at 100 percent, and the urban domestic sewage treatment rate reached 98 percent.
Regarding culture and tourism integration, Qingyan Ancient Town was rated as Guiyang's only national 5A-level scenic spot. The district's total tourism revenue increased by an average annual rate of 13.5 percent, and the total number of visitors increased by an average annual rate of 12 percent.
In terms of education, the district rebuilt, renovated or expanded 52 schools, adding 23,100 new study positions.
The district also passed the re-evaluation of the national demonstration zone for comprehensive prevention and control of chronic diseases, and realized full coverage of the standardized construction of township health centers and community health service centers.
