Huaxi makes list of counties with most beautiful villages

Huaxi district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently made the list of the top 100 counties and cities with the most beautiful villages in China, according to China Insight magazine.

Known as the "pearl of the plateau", Huaxi district is located in the central part of Guizhou province. With its beautiful scenery and rich tourism resources, it's one of the most famous scenic tourist areas in the province.

The topography of the district is dominated by mountains and hills. It is a typical karst geological area and forms a watershed zone between the Yangtze River system and the Pearl River system.

There is no severe cold in winter and scorching heat in summer. It possesses several outstanding scenic spots such as Tianhetan, Qingyan Ancient Town and Gaopo village.

In addition, 40 ethnic groups live in the district, including the Han, Miao, and Bouyei peoples. Its long history has nurtured a wonderfully rich ethnic culture and the development of distinctive customs.

Folklore activities with unique ethnic charms, such as the bullfighting competitions, have emerged over the centuries. These serve as must-see examples of leisure and rural tourism in Guiyang.
