Huaxi district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has made great progress in its bid to develop as an ecological civilization.
The district has strengthened the joint protection and restoration of mountains, waters, forests, fields, lakes and grasses to comprehensively protect the ecosystem.
It has continued to implement comprehensive management of Huaxi River and Huaxi Reservoir in recent years.
Residents who previously lived in the primary water source protection area of the Huaxi Reservoir and the Aha Reservoir have been relocated.
Officials said that to protect and increase biodiversity, the district established the Qingyan Chinese cedar nature reserve management organization in 2018 to prepare a Qingyan Chinese cedar county-level nature reserve plan.
A field survey was also organized on the location, age, specification and growth of the 35,761 ancient tea trees in the district and the ancient tea trees with development significance were listed and protected.
From 2015 to 2019, the district completed the management and treatment of mountain formations covering more than 400 mu (26.67 hectares).
During the period, it also established 89 parks and its green area rate in the built-up area of the district reached 50.88 percent.
Last year, the per capita public green area was 14.57 square meters and the forest coverage rate reached 49.06 percent.
