Huaxi district prepares for mass reopening of schools

Updated: 2020-03-16

Huaxi district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has implemented a raft of measures for novel coronavirus epidemic prevention and control, in order to ensure the reopening of 48 junior and senior high schools -- preparing for the return of 9,714 students and 2,480 faculty members.

Local officials said all schools have adopted closed management and students are not allowed to return to school without school approval. Teachers and students entering schools are required to verify their identity and have their body temperature taken.

All personnel with fever, coughs and other symptoms will be put into isolation to prevent the epidemic from spreading through the schools.

To date, Huaxi district has stored various anti-epidemic materials, including 38 thermography thermometers, 913 hand-held thermometers, 63,095 bottles containing disinfectant solution, 13,095 bottles of alcohol, 218,221 face masks, 11,900 bottles of disposable hand sanitizers and 320 sets of protective clothing with goggles.

Officials said school classrooms, cafeterias, dormitories, libraries, laboratories, office buildings, gymnasiums, toilets, medical observation rooms and surrounding areas should be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected at least once a day.

In terms of travel, day students are required not to take public transportation where possible and walking is encouraged. The district also chartered 47 special buses to pick up teachers and students who live far from their schools.
