The National Development and Reform Commission has released its first list of 136 landmark major application projects. A project led by Guizhou province, focusing on the integration of direct green power supply and computing power, has been selected for the list.

Centered on Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area, the project is rolled out in key cities across the China Southern Power Grid's service area. Running from 2026 to 30, it involves direct investment of more than 3.4 billion yuan ($510.43 million) and is expected to drive over 100 billion yuan in additional industrial investment.

The project aims to address key challenges, including mismatches between computing power demand and electricity supply, difficulties in utilizing green electricity, high computing costs and underdeveloped market mechanisms.

By enabling precise matching and two-way interaction between computing and power resources, it will turn Guizhou's energy advantages into a competitive edge in computing power.

It will also promote deeper integration between the digital economy and the green, low-carbon transition, strengthening the province's position in the development of artificial intelligence and the energy revolution.

The project focuses on coordination across planning, construction, trading and dispatch. It also features 10 landmark application scenarios, with substantial progress already made across the board. By 2030, all 10 scenarios are expected to complete full-chain demonstration and validation.
