Guiyang, Guian become national 'gigabit cities'

Guiyang city and the nearby Guian New Area in Southwest China's Guizhou province recently passed their national evaluations and became "gigabit cities", according to the Guiyang bureau of big data development and management.

Becoming a "gigabit city" recognizes a city's level of development of both its mobile and broadband gigabit networks. Currently, China has 110 cities that are so recognized, accounting for one-third of prefecture-level cities.

Guiyang has been promoting the construction of its optical fiber network and 5G network since the start of the year, and has seven indexes that have met the standards for being a gigabit city.

All urban families in Guiyang are now covered by an optical fiber network. In addition, all the key areas - such as transportation hubs, scenic spots, hospitals and universities - are covered by the 5G network, and there are 28 5G base stations for every 10,000 people, which is higher than the national level.

Among Guiyang's internet users, 49 percent are 5G network users and 30 percent have access to broadband above 500 megabits per second.

Guiyang has also released 12 cases of mobile and broadband gigabit network applications, involving internet service consumption, people's livelihoods and industrial integration.

Moving forwards, plans are for Guiyang to optimize the connections between internet facilities and contribute to Guizhou's construction as a key hub for the national integrated computing power network.
