China Unicom's cloud data center and China Telecom's cloud computing industrial park – located in the Guian New Area, in Southwest China's Guizhou province – were recently selected as national new data center typical cases, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

China Unicom's cloud data center is its biggest in South China. It serves as the primary node for the telco group's cloud computing platform, national information disaster recovery and backup base, and national information backup and support base.

The cloud data center covers an area of 610 mu (40.67 hectares) with a total investment of about 6 billion yuan ($946.33 million). It can equip 600,000 servers to meet the needs of big data development and operating maintenance for national government departments, internet companies and finance and insurance companies.

China Telecom's cloud computing industrial park is one of the two cloud computing data centers owned by the group. Currently, the industrial park has six data center buildings, one logistics support center, 24 sets of diesel generators and 80,000 servers under operation.

A data center is considered as being a key part of China's information infrastructure and provides support facilities for artificial intelligence and the industrial internet. In recent years, Guian has accelerated the construction of data centers and constructed seven super-large data centers.

It is currently the area with the world's most super-large data centers. By 2025, Guian is expected to have the capacity to house 4 million servers.
