A smart community gym started operating on July 25, reportedly becoming the first of its kind in the Guanshanhu district of Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.
The facility is on the old site of a disused fountain in the local Jinhuayuan Community. In May, the subdistrict office decided to transform it into a smart community gym under the direction of the district's bureau of culture, sports, broadcasting and tourism.
Covering an area of 1,700 square meters, the gym is equipped with a smart fitness pavilion, smart fitness equipment and smart interactive experience screens. In addition, the gym has a badminton area, chess area, children's entertainment area and fitness trail.
The gym operates under a smart management system based on big data and IoT technologies. Residents can access services – including reviewing their health records, getting fitness guidance and exercise advice – through their smartphones.
Plans are for the district to continue to transform vacant public spaces into fitness sites, to ensure residents can improve their fitness and overall lifestyle.
