Guiyang city in Southwest China's Guizhou province has built more than 8,000 smart parking spaces – as well as upgraded over 30,000 traditional parking spaces – since the construction of the city's intelligent parking system project started in August 2019.
In 2019, the Guiyang Transportation Committee carried out an investigation into the city's urban parking resources. Based on the investigation, it established an intelligent parking system to optimize the allocation of parking resources, as well as solve the parking problems in old communities, hospitals and schools.
The city has undertaken a series of initiatives to adopt smart parking, resource integration and management and to develop a public information service platform.
Locals are now able to quickly and reliably find vacant parking spaces using the Guiyang Smart Parking App, which was launched on Aug 7 last year. Relevant information, such as the distance to available slots and charges, can be searched on the app.
The city is currently focusing on the construction of parking lots in old residential areas and densely populated areas. Four parking lots are expected to be completed and opened by the end of this year.
In addition, five smart parking lots equipped with high-rise mechanical parking equipment are planned to start construction this year and are expected to be completed and be put into use in 2022.
