Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, had built 8,006 5G base stations by the end of December 2020, according to an announcement from the city's big data development and management bureau on Jan 22.
Guiyang has achieved full 5G coverage in major urban areas, with more than 1 million 5G users. Its number of 5G base stations accounts for 38.64 percent of the total in the whole province.
As one of the first 16 cities in China to conduct mass trials of 5G technology, Guiyang has achieved remarkable results in the construction and development of its 5G network. It has carried out innovative 5G research and application in advanced manufacturing, smart transportation and smart tourism.
In 2020, the city launched 11 projects based on 5G technology, including 5G vehicle networking, intelligent medical engineering and the construction of 5G communities.
In 2021, the city will add 10 demonstration projects related to 5G technology, comprehensively building the 5G application industry and ecosystem to establish Guiyang and Guian New Area as leaders in 5G application and innovation.
