China Construction News reported on Guiyang's innovative efforts to improve household waste sorting and the recycling of used materials on Aug 18. The city has set up dedicated areas for household waste collection and recyclable materials storage in residential communities in recent years, making it easier for residents to sort waste and recycle used items.

At Bihai Community in Guanshanhu district, residents can sort their waste and place it conveniently in the designated areas. Household waste collection rooms are mainly used for food waste and other household waste, while storage rooms are set aside for recyclables such as waste paper and plastics. Located side by side, the two facilities make sorting more convenient for residents while streamlining subsequent collection and transportation.

Guiyang has also adapted collection facilities to the conditions of different residential communities, and improved daily management and public guidance. Cleaners, community grid workers, and other community staff members work together to identify and address problems related to waste sorting and disposal.

Meanwhile, the city has made recycling more convenient through online pickup reservations, door-to-door weighing, and on-site payment. Some waste transfer stations have also added facilities for sorting and baling used materials, further improving the recovery and reuse of recyclable resources.
