Guiyang Olympic Sports Center's main gymnasium approaches completion

The main gymnasium of Guiyang Olympic Sports Center Phase II will undergo completion acceptance on May 30, with the project currently in its final stages.

The gymnasium features 12,000 seats and is equipped with modular sports-grade wooden flooring that can be assembled and disassembled, allowing rapid conversion between basketball games, badminton games, concerts, and other scenarios to flexibly meet diverse usage needs.

Unlike the open-air stadium of Guiyang Olympic Sports Center Phase I, this gymnasium's enclosed design will fill the gap for an all-weather, high-specification indoor venue for performances and events in Guiyang. It removes weather-related limitations, bringing more exciting competitions and shows directly to local citizens.

The venue boasts a 117-meter-span string-supported dome structure, making it the second-largest of its kind in China and serving as the project's key technical achievement. The design of Guiyang Olympic Sports Center Phase II smoothly blends regional cultural symbols with contemporary architectural style, aiming to establish it as a landmark that reflects Guiyang's urban identity.

Since 2023, Guiyang has hosted 78 large-scale commercial performances, attracting 1.99 million attendees. This year, the city plans to host over 30 music festivals and concerts, reflecting citizens' growing demand for high-quality cultural and sporting events.
