The Multicolor Art and National Costume Museum in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, opened a new exhibition hall on March 1.
The new exhibition hall is located at Guiyang Vocational and Technical College, and features three exhibition areas that cover 2,500 square meters.
At the new hall, visitors can see traditional clothing and ceremonial costumes from ethnic groups in and around Guizhou and Southwest China. Also available are antiques such as utensils, stone carvings, wood carvings and old furniture.
Visitors can also learn traditional crafts, such as embroidery and batik, for free from craftsmen at one of the museum's cultural experience activities.
As a comprehensive non-profit public welfare museum, it collects ethnic clothing and articles for daily use. The museum has exhibition, intangible cultural heritage protection, academic research, R&D and production, as well as cultural and tourism functions.
The original exhibition hall of the museum has been free and open to the public since April 2016. It has received more than 500,000 visits, including ethnic costume researchers, anthropologists, and art design creators.
Since it opened, the museum has strived to promote Guizhou's culture to the world, and has joined exhibitions in Denmark, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand.
It has also donated 18 ethnic costumes to the National Museum of China, as well as 10 embroidery works by Guizhou's ethnic groups to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
The opening hours of the new exhibition hall are from 9 am to 5 pm from Tuesday to Sunday. Visitors can register with their ID cards to visit the museum for free.
