Renovation has begun on 500 back streets and alleys this year in Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – with more than 100 alleys to be separated completely from the rain and sewage pipeline network, to solve the problem of sewage cross flows.

In order to ensure the work on the 500 back streets and alleys be fully completed in the second quarter of the year, the Guiyang bureau of comprehensive administration and local law enforcement officials have set up a special team to co-ordinate the reconstruction.

The team will tackle the problem of frequent cross flows of sewage on road surfaces due to the serious aging of pipelines, the small diameter of pipes and undivided rain and sewage.

It will move to resolve things in over 100 back alleys, by excavating roads and rebuilding rainwater and sewage diversion facilities.

In terms of capital expenditure, the special team has stepped up efforts to declare special funds and provincial and municipal awards and subsidies for each district and county. It has moved to secure social funds to participate in the reconstruction of back streets and alleys.

In addition, the bureau has also established three guidance teams for municipal administration, greening and law enforcement. These will provide advice on municipal issues such as sidewalks and paving, greening issues and law enforcement issues involved in the renovation.
