The relocation site in Jiangjiazhai village, Chengguan town, Kaiyang county, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is the largest of its kind, covering an area of hundreds of mu, and housing 5,836 relocated residents from 1,380 households.
When asked about their living conditions, all of the relocated villagers were more satisfied with their new housing than their housing before the relocation. They all said that if they want a good life, it must be earned.
Jiang Gang is one such person who has benefited from the move. Having been a coal miner, mason, and shoemaker, Jiang has to take care of his family as the eldest son. His life had always been tough until he moved into the relocated site in 2018. Since then, he has been striving for a life that he hadn't even dreamed of.
With the help of the community, Jiang opened a small supermarket financed by a government business start-up loan of 100,000 yuan ($15,000).
His supermarket has since expanded from 70 square meters to 150 sq m. He has also registered his e-shops on many online platforms to sell special local agricultural products.
The relocated community has offered better opportunities for industrious people like Jiang, with infrastructure such as schools, kindergartens, farm produce markets, buses, and special activity rooms designed for residents.
