Guizhou supports Guiyang in applying for city renewal pilot zone

Updated: 2021-06-08

The city of Guiyang is steadily pushing forward with its city renewal work, according to a recent symposium held by the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Guizhou Province and the Guiyang bureau of housing and urban-rural development. The department will work alongside the bureau in applying to become a national "city renewal pilot zone".

The provincial department, while giving full recognition of the accomplishments made by the bureau during the city renewal process so far, added that it hopes Guiyang can deliver key renovation projects that can be an example to the rest of the province.

The department also pledged financial assistance to help Guiyang apply to be a pilot zone for city renewal.

In 2021, Guiyang has a goal of rebuilding shanty towns accommodating 66,600 households, and renovating old urban areas containing 119,000 households. So far, 34 out of 99 municipal shanty town rebuilding projects have been completed, with relocation compensation schemes. Additionally, 50.1 percent of the old urban area renovation works have started construction, covering 25,050 households in 28 communities.

The bureau has held meetings to solicit opinions on the old urban area renovation programs in Yunyan and Nanming districts respectively. It has been coordinating with municipal units in charge of the city's electricity, water, gas and communication networks, requiring them to do field research on the reconstruction sites, and to adjust their work plan in accordance with local conditions.
