A meeting was held on May 18 in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, with the aim of promoting the renewal of Guiyang and Guian New Area, which in turn will play a significant role in the region's new-type urbanization process.
Leaders from Guizhou Provincial People's Government, Guiyang government and Guian New Area attended the meeting.
The city's renewal is reportedly an integral part of a recent campaign in Guizhou which urges locals to make the province stronger in all aspects, and unlock a new era in Guiyang's city construction and development.
The campaign is based on hard-won results made in the process of urbanization, which will in turn give powerful support to the province's other endeavors – new-type industrialization, modern agriculture and the growth of its tourism industry.
To this end, the government needs to redouble its efforts to raise the urban carrying capability, economic performances and quality and government services, as well as to accelerate the integrated development between urban and rural areas, according to the speeches addressed by the government officials in the meeting.
An awareness of the interrelationships between the city, industries, people and nature will guide policy making and facilitate stable city development.
Instead of simply doing an aesthetic makeover, which will not benefit anyone, the government is urged to enable its people to see concrete changes around them. Meanwhile, the city renewal work should still follow law-based and human-oriented approaches, and cannot be guided by an over-simplified mindset.
