Choy sum (flowering Chinese cabbage) is thriving in Longwo village, Xiuwen county, this winter, boosting farmers' incomes and helping pave the way for rural vitalization.

Longwo village enjoys a subtropical monsoon climate with an average annual temperature of 15.5 C. Thanks to its loose, fertile soil and convenient irrigation, the area's exceptional natural conditions produce high-quality choy sum.

The village has prioritized cultivating choy sum as a key special agricultural industry, making full use of idle farmland after the autumn grain harvest to develop off-season planting.

"Longwo village is an ethnic minority village with 520 households and a registered population of more than 1,680 people. The planting industry is the main source of income for the villagers. This year, the village has planted choy sum on more than 200 mu (13.33 hectares) of land and rapeseed on more than 400 mu," said Zhou Tihui, a representative of the village.

The planting industry has now become one of the key local pillar industries driving rural vitalization. "We will continue to encourage villagers to expand their planting scale and provide follow-up services. We will also apply for project funds from higher authorities to improve the planting base's infrastructure, focusing on resolving water shortages to further motivate villagers to engage in planting," Zhou said.
