Annual session of 17th Xiuwen County People's Congress opens

The third session of the 17th Xiuwen County People's Congress opened in Xiuwen county, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Feb 21.

The meeting was presided over by Wang Shili, executive chairman of the session and standing chairman of the presidium, with 184 deputies attending.

Xie Guobo, deputy Party secretary and head of Xiuwen, delivered a government work report. The report consisted of two parts: a review of the work done in 2023 and the goals and major tasks for 2024.

Xie stated that in 2023, Xiuwen achieved new accomplishments and reached new heights in various areas, including economic operations, optimization and upgrading of the industrial system, urban development, rural vitalization, and improvements in people's livelihood.

The expected targets for economic and social development this year are as follows: a GDP growth of around 6 percent, with the local primary, secondary, and tertiary industries growing by about 4.4 percent, 7.8 percent, and 5.2 percent, respectively. The added value of industries above a designated size is expected to grow by around 10.5 percent, and total retail sales of consumer goods are anticipated to grow by around 8 percent.

The congress also reviewed the report on the implementation of the national economic and social development plan of Xiuwen in 2023 and the draft report on the national economic and social development plan of Xiuwen in 2024. Also on the agenda, the congress reviewed the report on the execution of the county's financial budget in 2023 and the draft report on the county-level financial budget in 2024.
