The Gaocang Wind Farm project in Xiuwen county of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, was recently given the green light by the Guizhou Energy Administration.

This is the first fully funded wind farm project by Guiyang Mining Energy Investment Group. It is expected to promote the development of the green economy in Guiyang City and Guian New Area.

Located in Longchang sub-district of Xiuwen, the project has a capacity of 87.5 megawatts, with 10 units each producing 5 MW and 6 units churning out 6.25 MW.

It also includes a 110-kilovolt booster station, and requires a total investment of 560 million yuan ($77.86 million).

Once put into operation, it will provide the grid with 177 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity a year, with an estimated output value of 70 million yuan.

It will also contribute 9 million yuan in tax a year on average, save 53,300 metric tons of standard coal, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 133,300 tons, sulfur dioxide emissions by 453.19 tons, particulate emissions by 2,431.24 tons, and nitrogen oxide emissions by 394.54 tons each year.

The project will also save water and curtail discharges of wastewater, resulting in significant energy-saving benefits and reduced emissions.

It has been listed as a key provincial project. Construction is scheduled to commence at the end of December, with grid connection slated for one year later.
