Over 30 groups of families from across Guiyang joined the "tracing hometown" event at the Xiuwen Yangming Academy in the city's Xiuwen county on Oct 14.

Through activities such as visiting the academy, attending a special lecture on Wang Yangming in Guizhou, binding books, and imprinting stone inscriptions, participants immersed themselves in Yangming culture.

Yangming culture is centered around and named after the famous neo-Confucian philosopher Wang Yangming, who lived in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

"Tracing hometown" is a series of events organized by the Guizhou Provincial Library, aiming to help children discover the beauty of their hometown and enhance their cultural confidence.

The Xiuwen Yangming Academy houses a collection of 11,000 books from the Ming and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, 8,600 books on Yangming studies and post-Yangming studies, and 17,900 books on various disciplines of traditional Chinese culture published in recent times, with a total stock of 37,500 books.

It serves as a crucial platform for promoting Yangming culture.

During the event, children listened to stories about Wang Yangming, learned traditional etiquette, participated in a pitch-pot throwing competition, and experienced calligraphy.

Parents liked the educational but fun nature of these activities, which helped enhance their children's cultural confidence.
