Xiuwen makes progress in ecological civilization

In recent years, Xiuwen county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has made continuous efforts to create a demonstration county for the construction of ecological civilization.

The forest coverage rate in the county increased from 42.96 percent in 2012 to 55.74 percent in 2022, and the county's annual excellent air quality was 99.2 percent.

By the end of 2022, the county had built eight town sewage treatment plants, 58 centralized facilities, and 2,748 scattered facilities, covering 73 administrative villages. The sewage treatment rate in urban areas exceeded 95 percent last year.

Efforts have also been made to develop a circular economy and green industries, build a green logistics system, and accelerate the construction of green parks and factories.

In 2022, the energy consumption per 10,000 yuan ($1,400) of GDP in Xiuwen decreased by 15.5 percent, and 345,000 metric tons of backward production capacity were eliminated.

Under the guidance of ecological civilization construction, Xiuwen has seen the emergence of many forest towns, forest villages, and forest homes.

With its favorable ecological conditions, pleasant climate, and convenient transportation, Xiuwen has become popular among tourists from Chongqing, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Changsha, and other cities.
