Guiyang Pumped Storage Power Station gains approval

The Guiyang Pumped Storage Power Station was recently approved by the Guizhou Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the first of its kind in Southwest China's Guizhou province to achieve the feat.

The station is a key part of Guizhou's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25). The survey and design will be undertaken by POWERCHINA Guiyang Engineering Co, and after approval the project will enter the engineering construction stage.

The power station is located in Gubao town, Xiuwen county, Guiyang, capital of Guizhou, and has a total installed capacity of 1,500 megawatts.

It is located 38 kilometers away from Guiyang and 99 km away from Zunyi.

In January last year, POWERCHINA Guiyang Engineering Co started preparations for the power station's feasibility study report and carried out various tasks such as pre-examining and selecting a site, making plans for resettlement, carrying out social stability risk assessment, and formulating an environmental impact assessment report.

The power station is expected to start construction this year, and the first unit will begin generating electricity in 2029, with the rest to follow in 2030.

It is expected to increase the clean energy consumption capacity, realize a multi-energy complementary energy structure, and ensure the safe operation of the Guizhou power grid.
