Xiuwen sees rapid development in 5 years

Xiuwen county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has developed rapidly since the 12th Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Xiuwen Committee held in 2017.

Economic indicators

Xiuwen has always put the development of the real economy first, striving to build a strong economic operation platform and promoting the continuous growth of real economy enterprises.

In 2020, the gross domestic product of the county came in at 18.86 billion yuan ($2.95 billion), with an average annual growth rate of 10.9 percent.

The added value of the secondary industry reached 8.72 billion yuan, and there were 101 industrial enterprises above designated size in the county. In 2020, the total industrial output value above designated size reached 24.23 billion yuan.

Infrastructure construction

Over the past five years, Xiuwen has continued to improve its transportation. More than 60 kilometers of urban arterial roads such as Tongcheng Avenue, more than 80 km of municipal roads, and 1,154 km of hardened roads have been built.

The urban built-up area of the county has expanded from 8.25 square kilometers to 14 sq m, and 30 shantytown reconstruction projects have been implemented for 21,341 households.

In addition, information infrastructure has reached a new level. Total investment in optical network transformation projects has exceeded 48.6 million yuan, and a total of 322 5G base stations have been built.

Poverty alleviation

Over the past five years, Xiuwen has invested 7.27 billion yuan in poverty alleviation funds and carried out 2,214 projects. The county's 2,177 registered poor households containing 6,077 people have all been lifted out of poverty.

In addition, 387 households with 1,450 impoverished residents have been relocated.

Culture and tourism

During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period, Xiuwen received a total of 75.01 million tourists and realized a comprehensive tourism income of 58.77 billion yuan.

The county is currently home to seven tourist attractions, including four at the 4A-level. The county also has eight urban and rural parks, one national agricultural tourism demonstration site, four provincial-level key rural tourism villages, and more than 20 rural tourism spots.

Relying on its Yangming culture, Xiuwen has accelerated the integrated development of culture and tourism. China Yangming Cultural Park was built in the county, and it was named a national research base for primary and middle school students.

People's livelihoods

The county has invested a total of 2.71 billion yuan in education funds and built or expanded 62 new schools and educational facilities, increasing enrollment capacity by 13,410.

Services such as medical care and employment have been steadily improved. The basic medical insurance participation rate of urban and rural residents has remained above 98 percent. The urban registered unemployment rate has been kept under 5 percent.

Xiuwen also completed the conversion of farmland into forest and planted 92,900 mu (6,193.33 hectares) of forest. The forest coverage rate increased from 45 to 55.7 percent.
