Rural tourism in Xiuwen county, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, started in 2004, when Gubao town (previously Gubao township) was designated a national agricultural tourism demonstration site.

In 2014, Shilin village in the county's Dashi township received its first batch of summer tourists from Chongqing, which foreshadowed the county's homestay development.

Over the past several years, the county's rural summer tourism destination market has gradually increased, contributing to its rural revitalization.

To date, Xiuwen has planned eight one-day rural tourism boutique routes and has 283 homestays with more than 5,000 beds. It has 218 homestays with specialty restaurants, agritainment, and catering services.

In 2020, the county received more than 60,000 summer visits.

The county has rolled out a series of policies to guide the construction of unique summer resort tourism products. It has established a risk compensation fund of 5 million yuan ($773,000) and 25 million yuan in loan support to meet the financing needs of rural tourism development.

It has basically realized the full coverage of external road tourism signs at key rural tourist spots. In addition, more than 20 types of ecological parking lots have been built, and construction and renovation on more than 70 tourist toilets have been completed.

The county has also focused on supporting the creation of boutique inns and high-end homestays for summer vacations, building a number of model homestays, improving the quality of rural tourism services, and developing rural tourism.
