The bilateral agreement between China and the European Union (EU) on geographical indications (GIs) took effect on March 1.

Through the deal, China and the EU mutually recognized geographical indications on a large scale for the first time. These indications cover more than 500 products, including kiwi fruit from Xiuwen county in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Xiuwen kiwi fruit has a long history of planting. The main variety is "Guichang," which is selected and bred from wild kiwi fruit in the local mountains, resulting in prominent regional characteristics.

The average fruit weight is 70-110 grams, the fruit shape is long cylindrical, and the flesh is emerald green.

The cross-section has light-colored stripes, and the core is white or light yellow. It has a moderately sweet and sour taste.
