Kaiyang county's Miping township welcomes bumper harvest of rice

More than 3,000 mu (200 hectares) of rice in Miping township of Kaiyang county has entered a period of maturity and harvesting.

In Yunwan village, combine harvesters shuttled back and forth through the rice paddies, completing cutting, threshing and straw crushing in one go.

"At present, we are in the critical period for rush harvesting rice. We will monitor weather changes, coordinate agricultural machinery resources, and guide farmers to seize fine weather to harvest in batches, dry the grain and store it," said Wu Tao, a staff member at the Miping township agriculture and rural affairs comprehensive service center.

This year, the rice yield in Miping township is expected to reach 550 kilograms per mu. All of the harvesting is expected to be completed by the end of September.

The township will continue to carry out follow-up management and care, advance the construction of high-standard ecological farmland and the optimization of rice varieties, and continuously strengthen the application of agricultural science and technology and mechanization.

While stabilizing grain production capacity, it will keep broadening paths to increase agricultural efficiency and farmers' incomes.
