The 2026 intangible cultural heritage (ICH) experience and cultural fair kicked off at Yunkai Square in Kaiyang county, Guiyang city, on Jan 31.

At the opening ceremony, the dragon dance performers took to the stage first, with the dragon's body leaping and flying around to the rhythm of the drums, instantly igniting the atmosphere.

The opening act "New Life of Heritage" blended modern dance with traditional Chinese elements, showcasing the innovative vitality of tie-dyeing heritage. Traditional dramas such as Yang Opera and Di Opera were performed in succession. The song and dance performance "Kaiyang Over the Clouds" and the song "Blessed Land in Central Guizhou" highlighted the beauty of Kaiyang's landscape and culture.

Meanwhile, 150 booths opened to peddle their wares, and were soon bustling with visitors. In the specialty food area, selenium-rich rice and other local agricultural products were neatly displayed. At the ICH cultural and creative product booths, visitors immersed themselves in the charm of myriad heritage items.

The event runs from Jan 31 to Feb 14. The ICH immersive experience will have city-level inheritors on-site to teach people, offering experiences like batik and lantern making.

Promotional activities are designed to boost consumption, and interactive segments will allow visitors to feel the warmth of Chinese New Year and the charm of local Chinese culture amid joyful singing and laughter.
