Since the beginning of this year, Nanlong township in Kaiyang county, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has prioritized rural housing renovation.
Through a series of meetings, the township actively gathered public opinions and villagers' preferences regarding housing improvements. Staff from the village construction center and designers visited households to assess housing conditions and tailor solutions based on varying needs, formulating "one plan for each village" and "one checklist for each household". While preserving local architectural charm, the township effectively advanced renovations to create livable homes.
By implementing pilot projects in Shejiaying and Dongguan villages, Nanlong township has steadily improved the rural living environment and expanded efforts to surrounding villages.
"My house used to be quite old, with clutter and trash around it. Thanks to the livable housing renovation project, my courtyard is completely transformed. The renovation upgraded the electricity, improving the house's safety. The surroundings are much cleaner and tidier, and a small flower bed and pavilion have been built. It's so much more comfortable to live here now," said She Dejun, a resident of Shejiaying village.
The township has strengthened rural artisan training, organizing 11 participants from various villages to join the 2024 rural construction skills program. The training covers self-built housing policies and regulations, fire safety, and construction. Participants completed assessments based on standards set by the Kaiyang housing and urban-rural development bureau, bolstering the technical foundation for housing renovations.
Currently, 47 homes in Nanlong have been designated for tourism-focused housing renovation. All projects have commenced, with 15 already completed. The remaining 32 homes are expected to be finished by late July.
