Zhaiji township in Kaiyang county, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is a vivid example of the rural revitalization strategy at work.

Changes have been seen in the township's industrial development, infrastructure construction and living standards.

Zhaiji township has been growing flue-cured tobacco for many years. However, due to backward planting technology in the past, the output and quality of flue-cured tobacco were low, making it difficult for the industry to play a leading role in local economic development.

In recent years, Zhaiji township has increased capital investment, worked to make up for shortcomings in infrastructure such as roads and water conservancy projects, and taught people planting and breeding techniques, resulting in the industry's rapid development.

Flue-cured tobacco plantations in Zhaiji township have reached an area of 5,000 mu (333.33 hectares) each year, generating an annual income of 20 million yuan for locals.

Zhaiji township has also constructed processing factories for chili, rapeseed, bacon and sweet potatoes, which not only improves marketing channels, but also provides residents with more job opportunities.

Local residents are able to earn the same salary as migrant workers, while having more time to take care of their families.

Additionally, all the roads connecting villages in Zhaiji township have been paved, making them easier to access. The overall living environment has become cleaner and nicer as well.
